So I’m thinking this is going to be one of our best retreats next year! What do you think?
We have secured sewing room space and a block of rooms at the Wyndham:
Wyndham Garden Inn 2900 Jackson Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI, 48103 (734) 665-4444

A special room rate of $109 (plus taxes) is secured for our group. This rate is also available to you if you come early (for art fair) or stay on later if you desire. Dates for this rate: July 18th – 25th. YOU MUST RESERVE YOUR ROOM by June 18th to secure this rate. On June 19th, our block of rooms will be released and the rate (as of the time I’m writing this in March, 2018) will soar up to closer to $300 per night.
We will have 36 sewing stations for this one, as well as an ironing & cutting area.
Hubbies are welcome… there will be a separate item to reserve for them… stay tuned on that.
Thursday, July 19th – Sunday July 22nd – Ann Arbor Art Street Fair. Come early and enjoy the town! Our special room rate of $109 per night is available to you if you reserve your room early with the hotel.
Sally and Alice are intending to be in town for the Art Fair & will be staying in a different hotel Thurs & Friday night downtown in the midst of the Art Fair area.
July 22nd – SUNDAY: Arrival Day.
We have the sewing room available to us all day – courtesy of the fine folks at Wyndham Garden for being so accommodating to us. The hotel has been kind to commit to making sure we are set up and good to go early.
Doors open at 10:00 AM so you can set up. If you want to be an early bird (before 10), we might put you to work helping with set up a little bit. Rooms are technically available for check-in at 3PM. If you come early and your hotel room is not ready, you may put your suitcases in the sewing room until you can get checked in.
MONDAY & TUESDAY: Sew all day & night (if you like). Cleanup: Pack up your things from the sewing room when you are done on Tuesday night.
BREAKFASTS: Complimentary breakfast in the hotel for all guests staying there.
LUNCHES: Sunday (arrival day) tends to be a bit chaotic – so you’re on your own for that one… We are planning on using the hotel’s catering for lunches on Monday and Tuesday – we need a minimum of 20 sewing folks to do that. Otherwise, we’ll be on our own.
DINNERS: We have three nights involving dinners – Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. To be the most flexible in terms of cost and respecting each individual’s tastes and preferences, we have decided to go “on your own” for the two nights dinners.
Read on, please…
We are hoping to do the Pedicab Night on Monday… but closer to the date, we’ll watch weather and it may happen on Sunday… or possibly even Tuesday night. We want to make sure to make this the best experience possible! We will secure a nice dinner location – this one is included in your full retreat package. Alcohol purchases are up to you on your own. Transportation back to the hotel after dinner will also be arranged. Anyone that is not interested in the pedicab ride is still encouraged to meet up and have dinner together.
The other two nights, we are all on our own to enjoy the hotel’s restaurant on the property or go to other nearby restaurants. There are about 20 restaurants in the area – and one is even vegetarian/vegan. If you are bringing a guest, you may want to break away from the group and enjoy a dinner on your own – or join some of your new found friends. We play this all loosely so everyone can enjoy the experience in a way they appreciate.
Nobody gets left out… we’ll make sure you have a great time.
BEVERAGES: Hotel guests have coffee available to them in the morning with the breakfasts that are included. Everyone else, we negotiated to able to bring our own beverages in to the sewing room. There will be ice water service all day.
WEDNESDAY: Checkout by 11:00 AM.
More details to follow – and soon – but please book in with a “Hold My Spot” (HMS) if you’re thinking of coming.
Meals, etc… we’re working through some fun options.
